How can you use your card safely?

  • Ensure your Cim credit card is returned to you when you complete your transaction at any merchant or Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
  • Do not throw away your copy of sales slip and verify that your name, credit card number and amount transacted are accurate. Check them against your monthly statement. Any query should be addressed to Cim Finance Card Department within 45 days of the statement date.
  • Always keep your card in sight when you are using it for purchases and in case of possible compromise, contact our Card Hotline (230) 208 9090 to block your Cim credit card with immediate effect.
  • Do not give any credit card information to a merchant with whom you have NOT initiated a purchase or transaction.
  • MasterCard, UnionPay or Visa will never request you to give your Cim credit card details, including your PIN* code, in any circumstances. Consider any such request as a fraudulent one

How do you secure your PIN (Personal Identification Number)?

  • Never keep your PIN and your Cim credit card together.
  • Destroy your PIN advice slip after memorizing it.
  • Never write your PIN on your Cim credit card.
  • Do not use the same PIN for all your cards
  • Keep your PIN secret and do not communicate it to anyone when you use your Cim credit card at an ATM or any other payment device or POS terminal (POS), even to those offering to help you or Cim staff.

How do you protect yourself on the internet?

  • Use a computer with good anti-virus software
  • Avoid using a shared or public computer for online purchases.
  • Search for signs that the website is secure and legitimate, it will begin by https:// and you will also see the yellow padlock symbol.
  • Always check the website’s privacy policy and disclosures.
  • Create strong passwords and never share them with anyone.
  • Never allow any website to store your password.
  • Never leave your computer unattended while connected to any website you are using, especially if you are processing an online purchase.  
  • Always log out when you have completed your purchase.
  • Keep records of online transactions and regularly check your transaction history and Cim credit card statements to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. 
  • Do not open attachments, follow links or download software that you receive by email, unless you have solicited them and are sure they are safe.
  • Do not send credit card details via e-mail unless you are sure that it is safe and do not respond to emails from unknown sources that are asking for your Cim credit card information. 
  • In case of any suspicious transaction, call our Card Hotline (230) 208 9090 to block your card immediately.
  • MasterCard, Union-Pay or Visa will never contact you directly, whether by phone or email. 
  • MasterCard, Union-Pay and Visa will never ask you for your Cim credit card information such as CVV1, expiry date or PIN2.

A dispute is the process whereby you as cardholder query a transaction on your credit card account statement for one of the possible reasons:  

  • Transactions you do not recognise 
  • Transactions you did not authorise 
  • Transactions that you may suspect are fraudulent 
  • Goods and services which were not received 
  • Transactions where the payment amount differs 
  • Duplicated transactions –same transaction that has been posted more than once
  • Some Merchants use different trading names and may have recorded a different name in connection with your credit card transaction. Or they may have used their head office as a location. In this case do you recognise the transaction amount? 
  • You cannot match up your receipts with the transaction amount on your statement?
  • Could the transaction have been made by the supplementary cardholder?

Cim Finance acts as a liaison between you and the Merchant’s bank. We will require a dispute letter and evidence before proceeding with a Chargeback.

The process of disputing a credit card transaction with Merchant’s bank in accordance with rules set by Visa or MasterCard is referred as a chargeback.
